Ruth Addinall
Ruth is a painter and sculptor living and working in Edinburgh. Her work is generally figure-based and quite stylised. She is interested in the mundanity of our everyday existence and the ways in which we transform reality through the rich workings of our inner lives. Her urge to create, however, is driven largely by the visual and she is very much caught up in what Max Beckmann referred to as ´the fantasy palace of art´, the world of images and artifice. The stillness of many of my images reflects my fascination with sculptural form, the way light creates mass. IShe is also drawn to what is static as a means of reducing and concentrating time in order to capture a moment. Henry James: We work in the dark - we do what we can - we give what we have. Our doubt is our passion and our passion is our task. The rest is the madness of art. |
