John MC Cluskey

John MC Cluskey groeide op in Schotland waar hij op jonge leeftijd als choreograaf eigen werk vertolkt en danst bij het koninklijk Schots Ballet.
Dan verhuist hij van Schotland naar Abu Dabi, Nieuw Zeeland, Londen, Amsterdam om uiteindelijk in een klein dorpje in Frankrijk neer te strijken. Hier werkt hij dagelijks in zijn atelier in alle stilte en beslotenheid.

His work is informed, guided and fed by my life’s experiences which continue to be varied and fascinating.

Living in Glasgow, Abu Dabi, London, Amsterdam and now Wanaka, has provided him with insights into a range of strong and distinct cultural and visual identities. Working in a broad array of professions has permitted him to meet an eclectic mix of individuals all with diverse outlooks and approaches to life.

When choreographing his own work and later as a young dancer with Scottish Ballet, he developed a heightened spacial awareness and consciousness of how forms command or sit within the performance space, he also learned how the placement of objects and people within a contained space creates atmosphere and feeling. Movement on stage in dance or performance translates into composition on the canvas in painting, an empty space within which a story will be created or told.
